OPERATING RANGE

Following our "work" about wobble and grip understanding, we are now summarizing in it term of operating range : the ability of a board to handle speed safely (w/o wobble) and to make a turn (without drifting/sliding).

The operating range of the various designs of board can be easily displayed on a (speed, turning radius) chart.

SPEED WOBBLE SIMULATION BY SIMPACK

A speed wobble simulation of a regular skateboard has been made Simpack, a high tech computer company specialized in multi-body simulation aka high speed train, landing plane,... stability analysis.

Thanks to them !

Flexboardz is waiting for simpackskatehis turn !!

SPEED WOBBLE

annePRecently, Anne P., a young french scientific student (with an excellent level in maths/physics and  boardriding ) contacted me, looking for a research subject.

As the kinematic of the Flexboardz is the most scientific part (if any) of this venture, I adviced to make a comparison with the skateboard behavior, in particular regarding speed-wobble. Hopefully, it should be enough calculations here to make her teachers happy !

Since that first meeting, she found so many information and contacts leading to other information and contacts...that I decided to post it here !

Let's face it, for those who are not really maths-friendly, some part of information might be a bit boring ! So, before entering into details, let's first present the problem with a video.

Here comes our first "Boardriding Technical review". It presents the definition of the speed wobble and its application to skateboard.

In spite of a light tone, we remind that speedwobble is dangerous and send too many riders to hospital ! Wear your Helmet !

SKATEBOARD STABILITY

A second part, explaining more deeply (and scientifically) the board behavior is in the pipe...

Comments are obviously welcome and necessary !
